The Hashgraph Group (THG) has unveiled its groundbreaking “IDTrust” platform, a self-sovereign identity (SSI) solution that leverages blockchain technology to revolutionize digital identity management for individuals and organizations.
In an exclusive announcement to Cointelegraph, THG revealed that the IDTrust platform is built on the Hedera network and enhanced by artificial intelligence capabilities. This innovative SSI solution empowers users to securely issue, manage, and verify digital credentials without relying on centralized authorities.
The launch comes at a pivotal moment as governments and corporations worldwide accelerate their digital identity initiatives, including Switzerland’s e-ID program and the European Union’s eIDAS 2.0 regulatory framework.
Asia is also embracing blockchain-based identity solutions, with Vietnam recently launching its national blockchain platform to support decentralized identity applications.
IDTrust’s Unique Approach to Personal Data Control
Stefan Deiss, THG’s co-founder and CEO, explained to Cointelegraph how IDTrust’s utilization of Hedera Consensus Service (HCS) stateless proof mechanism provides distinct advantages over competing blockchain-based solutions.
“Unlike Polygon and Ethereum which must maintain complete transaction histories, IDTrust doesn’t contribute to Hedera network growth or impose additional burdens on validators,” Deiss noted.
The platform’s architecture separates identities from the Hedera network, eliminating the need for users to hold HBAR tokens or adopt Hedera’s key management system. “This level of flexibility is unprecedented in current solutions,” Deiss emphasized.
IDTrust differentiates itself in the crowded SSI market by offering enterprises and governments a comprehensive decentralized identity management system that combines both authentication and authorization capabilities.
“This makes it fundamentally different from solutions like Polygon ID or Worldcoin that primarily focus on identity verification,” Deiss told Cointelegraph. “Compared to Microsoft Entra, IDTrust delivers a decentralized trust model that gives individuals complete control over their personal data.”
Switzerland’s Digital Identity Landscape
The launch coincides with Switzerland’s national push for digital identity adoption.
On June 20, the Swiss Federal Council initiated a consultation process for new regulations governing the implementation of a nationwide electronic ID (e-ID) system.
Deiss explained that Switzerland’s e-ID, built on W3C standards and SSI principles, will maintain compatibility with the IDTrust ecosystem.
“The IDTrust wallet will support Swiss verifiable credentials, allowing users to combine different credentials for specific application requirements,” Deiss said. “This could include proof of identity or valid driver’s license verification.”
As a Switzerland-based company, THG has been actively collaborating with government entities on the e-ID initiative and closely monitoring the regulatory consultation process.
Deiss confirmed that the IDTrust launch positions THG for more advanced discussions with Swiss authorities about the future of digital identity solutions.
